As we start entering crunch (little under two weeks until the assignment deadline), a reminder that we have a host of eager-to-beta folk happy to polish off your works.

To see who they are, go to the #beta-board-2023 in the Black Emporium Discord Server. (Link to join.)

To get a beta, there are three ways to do so:

Review the participants who have already volunteered to beta. Their introduction posts in the #beta-board-2023 channel are pinned. Contact the individual(s) who seem best suited for your needs.
Post the pertinent details of your work (such as word count, category, rating, sensitive content warnings) into the #beta-board-2023 channel. Volunteers will reply or DM you.
Send the pertinent details of your work to a mod, and we'll anonymously post in the channel and connect you with any beta volunteers. This is a good choice if your work is unique in some way and you're concerned asking for help will de-anon you.

Betas are here to help with brainstorming, lore checks, and/or spelling & grammar. Our volunteer betas are an incredible part of this community — don't be shy to take advantage of this resource!

For those of you nuglets just joining our exchange, we toss around the word "treats" like Sera tosses around bees. But for those of you returning, we've changed how you can opt into receiving them.

How To Receive Treats

Treats are OPT-IN. You will need to enable treats on AO3, and include your preferences for treats in each request in the description box. If you only want certain types of treats, please use the description box to state your preferences.

If you do NOT specify treat preferences, we will assume you do not want to receive any!

You can use the following template to state your treat preferences:

Open to Treats: Yes / No
Open to Treat types: Fanart, Fanfiction
Open to Multi-recip treats: Yes / No

If you are open to all types of treats, you can simply say "Treats welcome!"

Black Emporium is a fanwork gift exchange, meant to foster growth in rarer pairings in the Dragon Age fandom. We allow both gen and romantic pairings. For the purposes of this gift exchange, a rare pairing is any pairing with less than 300 completed works on AO3.

Ahead of nominations opening, let’s quickly reintroduce the volunteers who are integral to this exchange every year (and also what they do)!

Our moderator team run the exchange, are able to speak with authority, make decisions, and handle any/all intracommunity questions or concerns. Our mods this year are AceQueenKing, Dragonflies_and_Katydids, keita52, Settiai, and Toshi_Nama.

Assistants aid the moderators when it comes to things like approvals, spreadsheets, and general behind-the-scenes help. Our assistant this year is havvke.
